Vale intends to hire 50,000 people over the next three years, according to the company’s global director of HR and governance, Luciano Siani. The mining company currently has 130,000 employees. To achieve the target, it has been mapping people both in the country and abroad. In some locations where it operates, such as Pará and Maranhão, Vale considers it impossible to fill vacancies solely with local workers. The company is adopting four measures: 1) hiring people abroad, from recruitment offices in Lisbon, Madrid and Paris, to work in Brazil and Africa; 2) recruiting students at leading centers such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); 3) training 4,000 people now, to hire them in future; and 4) investing in education to train regional workforces.
