Leilão da Ferrovia Norte Sul
  • 1996 – The North-South Railroad begins commercial operations along a 215-km section in Maranhão, between the cities of Estreito and Açailândia, where it connects with the Carajás Railroad. This route leads to the Port of Itaqui in São Luís, Maranhão.
  • 2007 – The 146-km Aguiarnópolis-Araguaína section in the state of Tocantins is inaugurated. 
  • Vale wins an auction for a sub-concession to commercially operate a 720-km stretch of the North-South Railroad. 
  • 2008 – A further 94 km of the North-South Railroad is opened, between Araguaína and Colinas do Tocantins. 
  • 2010 – A 132-km section of track is added between Colinas and Guaraí, both in Tocantins, as well as a 150-km section between Guaraí and the Palmas/Porto Nacional stockyard, also in Tocantins.
