Inaugurated in 2009 and covering a 4-hectare site in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, Pirapora Intermodal Terminal (known by its Portuguese acronym, TIP) integrates road and rail transport modes. The facility receives trucks that unload material to be carried by trains.
The terminal provides our clients with logistics services, based on its capacity to load 6,000 metric tons of grains per day. Connected to the Centro-Atlântica Railroad (FCA), it enables agricultural grains to be transported from inland Brazil to Tubarão Port Complex in Espírito Santo.
In order to raise the terminal’s grain-loading capacity, we have built a reverse loop on FCA – a stretch of track shaped rather like a pear.
The 3.4-km reverse loop enables trains to turn around without engaging in long maneuvers after being loaded. Trains enter the stockyard “head-first” and, after going around the loop, are ready for the return trip.
