Activities and operational units

Located in the state of New South Wales, this operation includes an underground mine, an open-pit mine and a processing plant. We produce thermal and metallurgical coal, which we transport by railroad to the Port of Newcastle, also in New South Wales. Vale has a 61.2% stake in the venture.

This operation is located in the central region of Queensland and includes mines and a processing plant. Metallurgical coal is transported by train for 160 km to the Dalrymple Bay Terminal, also in Queensland. Vale has an 80% interest in the operation.

This is an open-pit mine close to Carborough Downs, in the state of Queensland. We produce thermal and metallurgical coal, which we transport by train for 172 km to Dalrymple Bay Terminal. Vale has a 50% stake in the joint venture.

We operate two underground longwall mines (Chensilou and Juji) near the Yongcheng City in the province of Henan. Vale has a 25% stake in this joint venture.

This industrial unit located in the province of Shandong produces metallurgical coke, a fuel used in the steel industry, and methanol as a byproduct. Vale has a 25% interest in this joint venture.

Located in the department of Cesar, this mine has crushing and sorting facilities that produce thermal coal. The coal is transported by railroad to the Sociedad Portuaria de Río Córdoba’s port. Most of the thermal coal produced is exported to Europe and the United States.

Located in the province of Tete, the mine sits on one of the largest carbon reserves in the world. The coal is transported along the 575-km Sena Railroad to the Port of Beira.
