We have copper operations in Brazil, Canada and Chile.
Our operations are concentrated in the Carajás mineral province in the state of Pará.
This, the largest copper operation in Brazil, includes a mine and a processing plant in the state of Pará, in two main sites: Sossego and Sequeirinho. After it has been processed, the copper concentrate is taken by truck to a storage terminal in Parauapebas, Pará, from where it is transported along the Carajás Railroad (EFC) to Ponta da Madeira Maritime Terminal in São Luís in the state of Maranhão.
We produce copper as part of our nickel operations, mainly in Sudbury and Voisey’s Bay.
Located in the province of Ontario, this operation generates two intermediate products: copper concentrate and copper anode. As a byproduct of our nickel refining operations, we also produce electrolytic copper cathode.
Situated in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, this operation produces copper concentrate.
In 2010, we inaugurated our first copper operation in Chile.
Located in Salamanca in the Coquimbo region, this operation encompasses mines and a plant producing copper cathode (sheet metal). There are two copper oxide mines: Don Gabriel, an open-pit mine; and Papomono, an underground mine.
