It is part of Vale’s strategy to promote the development of the steel industry in Brazil, adding value to iron ore and generating wealth and development for the country. The company works through joint ventures in the steel sector.
An example is the construction of ThyssenKrupp Companhia Siderúrgica do Atlântico (TKCSA) in Rio de Janeiro, one of the biggest and most advanced steel complexes in the world, which began operating in June 2010. TKCSA is a partnership between Vale and ThyssenKrupp Steel, Germany’s leading steel company.
Vale is developing a number of other projects in Brazil, and also owns a stake in California Steel Industries, Inc. (CSI), a producer of flat-rolled steel and steel pipes in the United States.
