Vale supports the Living with Lakes Center, an important research center for water conservation and restoration located at Laurentian University in Canada. The studies carried out at the center help our company to measure the effectiveness of our environmental protection work.
The center is based in one of the most advanced buildings in Canada in terms of environmental sustainability – 70% more efficient in its use of energy than conventional buildings.
The facility is heated using geothermal energy, and rainwater is collected, treated and recycled for use by the center. The building has LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, and it will save more than US$1 million in energy and water costs over the next 25 years.
