Environmental Protection in Western China

Vale’s Innovation Program for Environmental Protection in Western China gives awards for innovative sustainability projects carried out in this area, which is the source of major rivers and home to forests, savannas, swamps and lakes. It is the first ever environmental initiative of its kind in China’s western region.

In partnership with China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection, we selected a number of projects run by government entities and NGOs, as well as individual initiatives that help to protect local ecosystems.

In 2011, awards were given for 21 initiatives selected from among 118 entries. The winners receive funds to develop their projects. Read about some of the most important prizewinning projects below:
