A space for culture, information and social inclusion: this is the offering of the Knowledge Wagon which was inaugurated on May 6 at the Vale Botanical Park, Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The structure, an 18 meter long wagon on railroad tracks, is the first audio library in Espírito Santo; it has more than 500 literary works compiled on CDs.
The collection of audio books promotes access to literature for people with visual disabilities, particularly those who have no knowledge of Braille. In addition to works on CD, purchased from the NGO Audio library, Sal e Luz, of Rio de Janeiro, the wagon has a collection of 3,500 books covering different fields of knowledge, such as the humanities, social sciences, biological sciences and children’s literature. Visitors will also have access to workstations with wireless internet access, and special tables, a wheelchair access ramp and a multimedia space.
Contact with nature
The inauguration of the Knowledge Wagon took place on the seventh anniversary of the Vale Botanical Park. Located within the green belt of the Tubarão Complex, one of the operational areas of our company, the park is a huge green area of 33 hectares, the largest in the municipality. Among the permanent attractions is a Sensory Garden, which stimulates the senses through contact with nature.
