Vale is launching Eye on Sustainability, an international photo contest. The idea is for people to send in photos inspired by the subject of sustainability and the environment, documenting the wonders existing on the planet and what is being done to preserve them, as well as challenges and solutions. The winners will each receive a camera and their photos will be published in National Geographic magazine. The contest will be open between June 5 and August 31.
Vale believes that the planet’s health and the long-term feasibility of its projects are interconnected, and is working to implement effective practices to conserve ecosystems and biodiversity. The photo contest’s purpose is to promote dialog and engagement on issues related to sustainability. The material submitted will be used to stimulate a debate with specialists in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to be held at the end of this year. The aim of this meeting is to discuss issues to be covered at the “Rio+20” United Nations conference on sustainable development in 2012.
