Vale has just published a guide featuring information on and photographs of 293 nests of Paraguayan birds, most of which are endangered species. The initiative is the result of a partnership between the company, NGO Guyra Paraguay/Birdlife International and the Science Society of Paraguay. The aim of the project was to help preserve these species, reflecting our commitment to preserving biodiversity in the locations where we operate.
The guide is a scientific work containing information collected over various years of study of Paraguayan birds, their habits and the way they build their nests. It is an important contribution to the country’s natural sciences and an opportunity to learn about the types of birds that live in the rivers and marshes of the Paraná-Paraguay Basin, where Vale has logistics operations.
In all, 1,500 copies of the book have been distributed to universities and schools in Paraguay and to Vale’s Spanish-speaking operations. The photographs are the work of Gabriela Arancio and the text was translated to Spanish by Hugo del Castillo and Arne Lesterhuis.
