Vale has been rated first out of five mining companies in a sustainability study assessing Latin America’s biggest companies. This study is carried out every year in a partnership between Management & Excellence (M&E), a sustainability focused company, and magazine LatinFinance.
The survey examined the five largest publicly listed Latin American companies in three sectors: mining, energy and oil and gas. One hundred and thirty six international benchmark criteria were analyzed in the fields of sustainability, corporate social responsibility and governance.
One of the biggest contributions to Vale’s result was the fact that it is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, which requires a high level of transparency in terms of financial and management information. The study also took into account Vale’s sophisticated environmental and risk management processes.
