Global Compact LEAD is a new initiative undertaken by the United Nations Global Compact, a framework through which more than 2,000 companies have committed to implementing 10 principles related to the environment, human rights and labor relations. The 56 companies invited to join the leadership group were chosen in the light of their record of engaging with the Global Compact.
Vale is also the first mining company to have joined the São Paulo Stock Exchange’s Corporate Sustainability Index (Índice de Sustentabilidade Empresarial, or ISE). This index has the aim of creating an investment environment compatible with sustainable development demands and stimulating ethical responsibility among companies.
Leadership in health
In addition to its notable sustainability work, Vale has strengthened its strategic positioning as a leading company in the area of corporate health. Vale is the only South American company to be part of GBCHealth, a global organization that seeks to create partnerships and promote best practices in health, focusing on combating AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.
