State in 2011
Since 2004,
Vale Foundation has run a program that encourages a culture of volunteering
among its employees. Called Vale Volunteers, it is now organized by 27
committees in Brazil, and
one each in South Africa, Australia and Mozambique.
The program
also involves employees’ family members and employees of Vale affiliates. Besides
supporting the development of the locations where it operates, Vale encourages
a socially responsible attitude among its employees.
The
volunteers conduct campaigns, vocational training and educational initiatives, provide
aid to victims of natural disasters, and run environmental preservation
campaigns and other activities.
On “V-Day”
(the first Sunday in December), Vale employees come together in different
regions of Brazil
to participate in social activities.
The
international Vale Volunteers Network carries out initiatives in various countries,
sharing experience, reference materials and advice remotely.
