The sound of a steam train at Ouro Preto and Mariana stations in Minas Gerais announces much more than the arrival of its passengers.
Inaugurated in 2006, the Vale Train is part of a pioneering heritage education program in Brazil. The Vale Foundation rebuilt 18.7 km of an old railroad and the four stations along its way. This investment of around R$48.5 million has helped the region to recover part of its history, from the time it was an important center in the gold industry.
The journey from Mariana to Ouro Preto, which takes approximately 50 minutes, passes by the intermediate stations of Vitorino Dias and Passagem de Mariana. The region’s stunning natural landscape is the highlight of the trip.
