Geo-technology supports all phases of our business projects. Vale is a pioneer in the use of geo-technology in Brazil. In the 1980s, we introduced geo-processing into the planning and execution of our mineral exploration projects.
Applications based on geo-technology are used to plan the implementation, operation and closure of our mines. Geo-technology is a strategic tool that aids decision making and the efficient management of our operations.
We continuously invest in equipment and best practices available in the geo-information market, enabling us to work consistently based on Geographical Information Systems.
We use technologies such as GPS, aerial photography at various scales, laser profiling, multisource geographic data applications and orbital/aerial sensor imaging. The expansion of our geographic data archive led us to establish the Geodata Center in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, an information technology facility hosting a centralized database used by all our business units.
