Vale’s concern for sustainability and the environment where it is present has led it to develop projects and programs to cut greenhouse gas emissions in its operations.
Every year, the company voluntarily discloses information on its greenhouse gas emissions in its Sustainability Report.
Vale’s total greenhouse gas emissions in 2010 were approximately 20 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent. Most of these emissions were generated in Brazil (15,046,310.51 metric tons). Other countries where Vale’s operations produced significant emissions are Indonesia (2,222,295. 01 metric tons) and Australia (1,034,866.08 metric tons).
Due to all of its efforts, Vale maintains its position as the most transparent Latin American company at disclosing greenhouse gas emission details, according to a global report produced by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP).
